Design Directions International was selected to redesign and upgrade the tired-looking waterfront hotel in Savannah, Georgia, originally built in the early 1980’s. The nondescript seven-story atrium lacked intimacy and needed to transition to the hotel restaurant, lounge and meeting space. Intimate seating replaced a raised platform that formally blocked atrium views.
Parallel rows of custom eight foot lamps now create a path to guide guests through the atrium to various areas throughout the hotel including the restaurant, the ballroom, and the meeting rooms. The lamps are removable for banquets and other functions. The lamps help add a human scale to the space. The result is an incredible transformation of space through color, texture and furnishings. The restaurant, new meeting spaces and lounge were reconfigured to take advantage of the river views. In the lounge, the bar in front of the window was moved to open up the view to the river. A new outdoor terrace lounge was created to take advantage of the vistas. Nautical motifs play on the river location without being too themed.
